VEGETARIAN IN COSTA BLANCA

Its never easy (especially on the road) to find
a vegetarian restaurant in the Costa Blanca

The standard Spanish diet combines carne & pescado (meat & fish) ...
So what happens when a vegetarian comes to town ?
What chance of a vegetarian meal in a Costa Blanca restaurant ?

Here's what to say in a Spanish restaurant if you are vegetarian.

But at times you may as well talk to the wall .. its possible that the waiter is listening .. but the concept of no meat or fish on a plate is just beyond their comprehension ..
So they "think" that they know what you mean .. but your preference has somehow gotten lost in your own Spanish translation ... and you end up with something unwanted on your plate.
My wife is vegetarian ... and apart from a select few places we have "given up" on Spanish Restaurants .. too many times it has all gone wrong for her. I must admit that I have also had a few bad meals as well, although I am not a veggie ...
So no more "trying out" Spanish Restaurants ..
we stick to those restaurants we know.

If your on the road and call into a McDonalds or Burger King restaurant in the Costa Blanca, there will be no veggie burgers ... at least all the ones we have ventured into (not that many). Obviously the veggie burger does not work in those Costa Blanca franchises.
Talking of being on the road .. if you visit a new town and are feeling a little peckish and you have not already done your restaurant homework ; this is when it gets really hard to find that vegetarian restaurant option.

Costa Blanca pizza shops .. usually have only two veggie choices .. Margarita & Vegtal.
Finding vegetarian lasagne - unless you go to an Iceland ... is neigh on impossible.

Chinese Wok Buffet Restaurants however ... are one option for the vegetarian ...
and Indian Restaurants always offer a vegetarian menu.

VEGETARIAN RESTAURANTS IN THE COSTA BLANCA ...

serves both vegetarian and non-vegetarian ..
but has a separate vegetarian kitchen.
