N332 Via Parque Road - News received end March 2007 says that the Council of Ministers have authorized the bidding for the work to start on the building of the Via Parque Road - a four lane road (dual carriage way) to stretch between Torrevieja and Guardamar del Segura - which will incorporate a separate Bicycle lane (a much needed addition - as far as safety is concerned - the one and a half metre wide "space" separated by a white line from the cars, is hardly a great invitation to any safety conscious bike rider). There is no doubt whatsoever that this is a long needed change to the Costa Blanca traffic infrastructure and will also enhance both the travel times and safety on this N332 roadway between Torrevieja and Guardamar del Segura. UPDATE - 15th November 2007. Work has started - the land needed to extend the N332 into a dual carriage way has been fenced out, and work has already started to make the N332 into a dual carriage way. |

 Guardamar del Segura urbanisation El Raso.El Raso Guardamar - El Raso is the largest of the out lying Guardamar del Segura urbanisations - El Raso was only built (and is still partially under construction today) in around 2003. El Raso is the urbanisation of roundabouts (22 within the road ways already containing property - and a further 14 on the roads to the back of El Raso, which have no propertys as yet). El Raso is situated about 7 km from the heart of Guardamar del Segura, heading south along the N332 from Guardamar (towards Torrevieja) you would take the CV895 road (the lemon tree road - signposted Los Montesinos see our detailed map of El Raso), and the entrance to the El Raso urbanisation is left on the first roundabout on this CV895 road. El Raso urbanisation is on the extreme ouskirt of the Guardamar territorial boundry. The builders of El Raso bit off more than they could chew - or, more than the Guardamar Council would let them swallow ; the roadways constructed to the back of El Raso were extended over the Laguna de La Mata (a nature park) border - and it is probable that the area to the back of El Raso will never see any housing development - time will tell.  Guardamar Del Segura Cycle Shop - Guardamar Bikes. Bicycle sales, bicycle hire and cycle repair centre - with delivery and collection. English couple Mike and Helen have opened this new cycle store in Guardamar del Segura, located inside the Plaza Porticada square, on the Avenida Mediterraneo side, a great way to get around Guardamar. | Guardamar Del Segura - Costa Blanca - Children's Soft Play Centre - DANJOS .. A huge indoor kids play centre over 600 square metres of play frame, with activities, and obstacles to keep even the most playful and energetic child amused for hours. CCTV will mean that the kids can be watched on monitors - Danjos will be a dedicated place for families to relax and enjoy themselves, giving children the freedom to play, and parents the opportunity to have adult quality time - there will be kids games, toys, arts and crafts and children's film shows, face painting and magicians - this will be a great party venue or drop and shop creche, with live acts, a disco and bingo for mum. The creche staff will be fully vetted and trained to NVQ standards, there will be an adult cafe bar and a kids snack bar, pool, air hockey and much more ..... Danjos play centre/creche is in the process of being assembled and will be located in Guardamar del Segura on a road called Forjadors at the edge of the Poligono Industrial estate. Directions to Danjos kids play centre ... off the N332 at the Northern (Alicante) end of Guardamar del Segura, turn right at the Wok Buffet roundabout - go past the petrol station and take the first right a road called Forjadors - Danjos soft play centre / creche will be on the right. Guardamar del Segura Supermarket - Masymas, Mercadona, Lidl and Dias - some of these are place marked on our detailed street Map. The main supermarkets in Guardamar are Masymas and Mercadona, and although Masymas supermarket is not as central as the Mercadona, it stocks more of a choice than Spanish only brands, which tends to be the case at Mercadona. The big two supermarkets are always closed on bank holiday (red days) - but there is a mini mart (Dicost Supermercado) located in Blasco Ibanez which is open every day. For your bread - or pan as its called in Spain - try the Mercadona Barra pan Rustica - its the best we have tried by a long way. Also recommended are the giant (gigante) maize "fruito select" from the Mercadona store.  |

 Guardamar del Segura Trains ...(Spains Train Network is run by Renfe). There is no railway in Guardamar del Segura - the nearest place to find a train station by our reckoning is Callosa de Segura (distance of 25.2Km according to Autoroute), but perhaps the better option would be Orihuela 32.6Km. For times and info please check the Renfe website www.renfe.es (with english language option). Telephone 965920202. There is however a tourist "train" which tours the roads of Guardamar del Segura - this only happens however mid-June to beginning of September (and may only be on certain days in the week) - the "train" runs from Engineer Mira all through Guardamar del Segura and if you can't ride a bicycle and are not up to really long walks then this a great way to get around and see a lot more of Guardamar del Segura. This tourist train is also used on the Guardamar Path of History tours. |

| Driving and parking your car in Guardamar del Segura .... Guardamar del Segura car parks are marked on our detailed street map (see Map page), parking of cars is allowed on almost every street - especially in Jul/Aug - when it is difficult to find a car parking space (BUT avoid the yellow lines), we have not yet seen a traffic warden in Guardamar - but we HAVE seen the Policia Local assisting the driver of a tow truck, where a car was parked on the yellow. The only advise we can give (through experience) is try to leave plenty of space between the cars around you when you park your car - it is not uncommon to see someone "ram" another car whilst trying to get out of a parking space .. so be warned. When driving in Guardamar take care on the "smaller" road junctions, where the road markings are either, not marked, or very poorly marked. |

| Fishing in Guardamar del Segura .... Sea fishing seems a keen Guardamar del Segura pastime (the town after all, was once a fishing village)- the area around the river Segura mouth seems very popular, as does the small tributary which runs on the north side of the river (this is marked on our Google Earth Map). According to a person at the tourist information desk, no license is needed to fish from the shore or the mouth of the river. There is a Fishing Shop on the main Major road (just before Plaza del Labradores) on the right hand side of this road (Jorge Gimenez - Pesca Sport Fishing) - which will of course offer more information. |

Golfing around Guardamar del Segura - There are five golf courses within a 22km radius of Guardamar del Segura - these are all 18 hole par 72 courses. |

Horse Riding in Guardamar del Segura - If you fancy horse riding in Guardamar del Segura, the place to go is El Rufugio. El Refugio is a bit out in the wilderness - but is a Restaurant and also offers accommodation (whole horse riding holiday packages), and equestrian persuits - located in the La Mata salt lakes (between Guardamar and Torrevieja). Whether you are a horse riding beginner or expert - whether you want to stay for the week or just visit for the day, if horse riding is your thing, then this is the place for you. |

The Parada de Taxis is marked on our Guardamar del Segura Map it is next to the bus station in Molivent St. You don't see very many taxis around at this Taxi Rank, and we would imagine it could be quite a struggle to get one on the spur of the moment in any other months than June,July or August. | Guardamar del Segura Markets - The main Guardamar del Segura Market day is on Wednesday and there is also a Market held at Le Mata on Wednesday (4Km south of Guardamar del Segura and left off the N332).
On Sunday there is a market left off the Montesinos road (heading south from Guardamar approx 1.4Km on the N332, the Montesinos road is a right turn clearly marked) ; and one also on the other side of the N332 from the Guardamar Industrial Estate. In the summer months (afternoon and evening) the Inginero Mira is lined with Market Stalls selling all kinds of things. | Guardamar del Segura Banking - there are around thirteen banks in Guardamar these are mostly located on the main high street Avenida Pais Valenciano / Mayor. If you enter Guardamar from the N332 road along the main high street, the banks are : in order of location : Banco Halifax, Caja Murcia, Banco Popular, Caja Murcia (2), Caja Madrid, Bancaja, Santander, La Caxia, and BBVA. We have found that the Banco Halifax does not charge for money transfers to or from the UK (if you have a UK Halifax bank account). The banks are open from 09.00 till 14.00. Some of the cashiers (not all) will speak a "little" English. |

| Guardamar del Segura Post Office (Correos) - located Jorge Juan (opposite our Internet Cafe) the opening hours are : Monday - Friday 08.30 to 14.30 and Saturday 09.30 to 13.00 (nice hours !). The Correos is closed on Sunday and all Bank Holidays (red days). Stamps can be bought at any Tobacconist if you miss the Correos opening times. |

Plaza Porticada Guardamar del Segura - work has started on this eyesore area, which had become a skate board area for the local kids (hardly surprising) - gathering the graffiti which comes from that kind of territory : its early days as yet, but it seems that the work involves only a flower bed here and there, and a few seating areas. The whole area (with its concrete palm trees) should have been dug up and re-built from scratch, but the authorities may yet surprise - only time will tell. |
