GUARDAMAR FIESTAS
Photos of the spectacular fiestas in Guardamar del Segura.
Every town of any size in most of Spain has a Moros y Cristianos (Moors and Christians) fiesta at some time during the year. Below are a selection of photos from the annual spectacular Moros y Cristianos (Moors and Christians) fiesta, a grand procession held in Guardamar in July. We also show photos of the Semana Santa festival in Easter 2007.
The annual Guardamar :
Moors and Christians
(Moros y Cristianos) Fiesta.
Some fiestas last just a few days, others, such as that in Guardamar, last for almost two weeks. Highlight of the festival is the procession of the various bands (groups) of Moors and Christians, held on two successive evenings. These procession's last three hours or more. Each main group is preceded by a flag-carrier and then each sub-group is preceded by an animator, who attempts to gain the applause and support of the public for their particular parade section.
Other fiestas held in Guardamar are ...
February : Spring Fayre.
March and April : Easter and Religious Parade - Semana Santa (Holy Week).
June : Dama de Guardamar.
July : Fiestas of San Jamie.
September : Virgen of Fatima
October : Virgen of Rosario.
