Information about Guardamar del Segura.
Guardamar del Segura is situated on the Costa Blanca,
some 35 Km to the south of Alicante and about 14 Km
to the north of Torrevieja. Information suggests
that the "live in" population of Guardamar is in
the region of 13,000 but explodes to around
45,000 (estimated) during June,
July and August, when the majority
of Spanish who own the apartment's
in the town, descend for the summer
to breathe life into Guardamar. |

Detailed Information about
Guardamar del Segura.
Visitors are attracted to Guardamar by its nature, its cultural activities and its leisure facilities. Three natural areas surround the town: the sand dunes, with their associated pine forests, in which can be found the ruins of the Califal Rabita (information on Places of Interest page), which lead to long sandy beaches; the Parque Natural de La Laguna de La Mata, a bird reserve offering walking paths and hides from which the birds can be observed; the mouth of the River Segura, in which is located the marina (Marina de las Dunas) - information and photos on the Places of Interest page) and around which is found the market-gardening area of Guardamar del Segura.
Guardamar Fiestas Information.
Fiestas and cultural activities fill the year at Guardamar.From the entrance of Menjabollos the giant at Christmas, and the Carnival celebrations in February, to the grand processions of Moros y Cristianos (Moors and Christians) in high summer, along with numerous others throughout the year, there always seems to be a fiesta in Guardamar (information and photographs).

Guardamar Cultural information.
On perhaps a higher cultural level, the Museo Arqueológico - Etnológico y Paleontológico offers an excellent collection of local interest, which is expanded by the exhibition's information about the work to control the advance of the sand dunes at the beginning of the 20th century, which is housed in the Casa de Cultura. Young people from numerous countries come to Guardamar each summer taking part in the Summer University known as "Els Joves i Europa" and the bi-annual "Festival Internacional de Percussió" offers classes and concerts. Open-air concerts take place in the Parque Reina Sofia during August and numerous other cultural activities are organized in Guardamar throughout the year; information.

leisure activities in Guardamar.
Leisure facilities in Guardamar include water-sports, such as sailing, windsurfing, water-skiing, paragliding, and diving, many operating from the Marina de las Dunas. A sporting centre offers an olympic-sized outdoor swimming pool, a large heated indoor pool, three football grounds, basketball courts, and other areas for athletics, indoor football, tennis and fronton (a sort of mix of tennis and pelota). Five golf courses are located within 20 Km of Guardamar and the area is also ideal for walking, cycling and horse-riding.
