BENIDORM

Holiday and Tourist Information for Benidorm

Benidorm is the classic epitome of Spain's Costa Blanca in some peoples eyes, but a coastline (others say) has been ruined by the skyscraper hotels and over commercialisation ...

Benidorm

Benidorm has become what it has become ... and nothing can change that. One thing is fact ... Benidorm ALWAYS draws in the crowds and is one place on the Costa Blanca which is never short of something going on all year round, day after day, year in and year out ... the Costa Blanca and Spain would be the loser (in that respect) ... without Benidorm.

My view of Benidorm is .. its hard to park the car for free .. yes .. but I really don't mind the hassle ... it's worth it. Benidorm has its own kind of ambience ... there is no other Costa Blanca town or city with the same "vibe". Benidorm (agreed) is not for everybody ... but I'm betting that some who snub Benidorm have never ventured into it's streets to feel that "vibe" for themselves ....... its unique ........ its Benidorm.

Benidorm is the Costa Blanca's biggest tourist attraction by far, and the towns organisational skills and tourist "know how" should see this trend continue and grow.

TOURIST INFORMATION BENIDORM - SPAIN ... INFORMATION AND FACTS.

The location of Benidorm in the Costa Blanca - surrounded by the mountains of Sierra Cortina and Puig Campana to the north and Tossal de la Cala to the west - somewhat protects the city from the winds.

There are two parts to Benidorm ... often referred to as "old Benidorm" and "new Benidorm" ... both parts fronted on the coast by mediterranean bays and separated by the marina ... the old town being the western side of Benidorm.

Benidorm's three beaches are (west to east) the Poniente beach (old town), Malpas beach (by the marina) and the Levante beach (new town) ... the beaches are excellent and cleaned every night ... make no mistake the Benidorm authorities know what makes this Costa Blanca resort tick and go to lengthy extremes to keep it ticking over.

Some people turn up their noses at the very mention of Benidorm ... but for an action packed, bustling, varied, exciting day (or holiday) on the Spanish Costa Blanca ... Benidorm is very, very hard to compete with.

Business For Sale Costa Blanca

Benidorm

When looking for days out with the family in the Spanish Costa Blanca ... there are places other than Benidorm to venture ... but when you see the wealth of opportunities provided in Benidorm for family entertainment ... its difficult to avoid heading towards this part of Spain's Costa Blanca.

BENIDORM FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT

The top four family entertainment centre's in Benidorm

Mundomar Benidorm ...
right next door to Aqualandia ... marine and exotic animals on show.

Aqualandia Benidorm ...
perhaps the largest water park in Europe ... never mind the Costa Blanca.

Terra Nature Benidorm ...
a 320,000 square metre wildlife park -with over 50 different animal species.

Terra Mitica Benidorm ...
theme park ram packed full of entertaining rides & shows for all the family.

Mundomar ... (Aquatic) Entertainment in Benidorm

MY FAVORITE : Mundomar really is a class act .. something for everyone.
The dolphin show at Mundomar really tops it off nicely, it rained whilst we were there but in no way did it spoil the occasion, the Mundomar staff even provided disposable raincoats (a nice touch).

Mundomar (which means sea world) is tied in with Aqualandia (right next door) ... Mundomar pegs itself as a non-profit organisation with the aim to conserve (in particular) marine wildlife - lets face it, there is not a lot of "other" wildlife in Spain to conserve, so best to go with what you have got.
Mundomar also offers dolphin therapy sessions for children with physical or mental disabilities, this obviously takes place behind closed doors.

The question most asked about Mundomar dolphin show is ...

"can you swim with the dolphins at Mundomar ?" ...

While we were there there .. only the trainers swam with the dolphins, but one of the kids in our group (a 2 year old) was volunteered for the dolphin show & was picked. He was placed in a boat, introduced to one of the dolphins at the side of the boat and then pulled around the pool by this dolphin with a rope. The kid looked bemused .. but .. something for anyone to remember (we got it on video), and a few more kids got the same treat after this. GREAT SHOW.

Mundo Mar Benidorm

Benidorm's Mundomar - is it more than just a dolphin show ?

Yes - indeedy ... so much more .. there are all sorts of wildlife kept here and other animal shows include a fun slapstick sea lion show and a parrot show. A page on the Mundomar website allows you to download or view a plan of the whole park and what is on offer, it took us around three hours to go round the whole place.

Mundomar opens all year round.
10.00am till 18.00pm .. but times & dates can change ...

Check here ...
Mundomar Website

Mundomar covers 60,000 square metre's and has a massive free car park.
Mundomar & Aqualandia share the same car park with their entrance side by side.

Mundomar is not a cheap day out - lets make that clear.

MUNDOMAR PRICES ... ADULT : 24€ --- KIDS & SENIORS : 18€

Note : there is a reduced rate after 15.00pm (or at least there was when we were there) 18€ & 14€.

Summary :  The dolphin show is simply the icing on the cake over a fantastic day out at Benidorm's Mundomar. Come rain or shine I would recommend this place to anyone ... Mundomar is excellent.

Aqualandia ... (Aqua Park) Entertainment in Benidorm

Aqualandia Benidorm

Benidorm's Aqualandia. (Pictured from Benidorm's Mundomar in Oct 2010)

I admit .. never to have been .. I admit .. never to go .. I admit .. I'm a little too old.
Phew Weeee !! ... I thought I was expected to do the business & ride the slide ..
Even I have to admit that it looks pretty cool .. the view (above) probably did not do the place justice (as it was a miserable day weather wise) although it is a nice photograph .. I think so anyway. Aqualandia is situated on the eastern side of Benidorm, was opened in 1985 and apparently has some real scary slides to suit the really brave.

My sister & family did go, here are some pics on a sunnier Benidorm day..

(Note : this was Benidorm's Aqualandia in May 2010 ... not too crowded at that time of year).
The Aqualandia report was all good ... price was not belittled (always a good sign) & the kids were happy (an even better sign). It looks a long way to the top of those slides from the bottom.

Some standard "book" info & a little more about this Benidorm attraction.

Aqualandia opens this year from 21/05/2011 until 30/09/2011 10.00am till 18.00pm .. but times & dates can change ...

Check here ...
Aqualandia Website

Aqualandia covers 150,000 square metre's and has a massive free car park.
Aqualandia & Mundomar share the same car park with their entrance side by side.

AQUALANDIA PRICES ... ADULT : 28€ --- KIDS & SENIORS : 21€

On site facilities and services include picnic areas, souvenir shop, photography, cash dispensers, locker hire, and hire of swimming floats.

Refreshments include a snack bar, barbecue, pizzeria, burger restaurant, ice-cream parlours and coffee shops.

Summary : Pricey - YES but the kids will love it ... I think in July and August the crowds may well be too much, but that is just a guesstimation. If your kids are dying of "boredom" or crying out for "something to do" ... and you are in the vicinity of Benidorm ... Aqualandia should not disappoint.

Other Attractions in Benidorm

As already stated - Benidorm has that something special ... sure the beach walkways get crowded peak season .. but venture inside .. to feel the "vibe" and Benidorm has so much more to offer.

Benidorm front

Desafio Medieval Castle - Castillo Conde De Alfaz.

Benidorm Medieval Theme Park ... yet to visit.

Benidorm Palace - The famous ... show time in Benidorm.

Night-time dinner & dance ... show time spectacular.

Benidorm Palace

Along this stretch of Benidorm beach walkway there are kids swings etc and also lots of exercise machines - which are free to use. They call it Parque de Elche .. not really a park - but you could call it that I suppose. This is just passed the Marina on the "old" Poniente beach side of Benidorm.

Accommodation in Benidorm

Lets be serious .. Benidorm is one BIG HOTEL not to mention the B&Bs, guesthouses, private rentals etc .. the official estimate (2010) is 40,000 beds available in Benidorm ... and then there are 10 camping sites.

Impossible to list them all here .. Google and thou shall find, no problemo.

Transport in Benidorm

Airport - Benidorm air travel

The closest Airport to Benidorm is Alicante 47km.. about an hours drive.

Train / Tram - the Benidorm train travel network.

Benidorm is connected by tram to Denia and Alicante. From Alicante you can reach most Spanish cities using the Renfe Train Network.
For Benidorm Tram information.

The main Benidorm Tram Station map C/Estacion - Telephone : 965 851 895.

Bus - Benidorm travel routes, operators & station.

Bus routes run to all major cities. Benidorm inter-city bus information ...
The Estacion de Autobuses ( Bus Station ) is on Av de la Comunidad Europa. Telephone number of the Benidorm Bus Station is 965 851 311.
The bus operator Llorente covers the city of Benidorm area.
The bus operator Alsa covers transport to other towns to & from Benidorm.

There is also a tourist bus which you can catch .. around 7€ adult.
Benidorm Touristic Bus Information.

Boating - and Benidorm Marina ...

The Benidorm Marina is comparatively small (when compared with the likes of Alicante & Torrevieja Marinas). Boat excursions to both Alicante & Tabarca Island operate from the Benidorm marina, but it's a long way to both from Benidorm and more than likely expensive.

Car - parking your car in Benidorm.

As with all major cities .. free parking is hard to come by ... and the time you waste driving around trying to find free parking can be better spent ..
If you are just visiting Benidorm for the day & you can afford it .. take one of the many pay parking lots .. (be sure to mark your location on a map - it can be sometimes hard to find your way back if you wander too far afield).
We have found this 24 hour pay parking to be ideally located for a walk around Benidorm on foot. It is located close to the "old" Poniente beach side of Benidorm and the Marina is close by.
Print this map as a location guide to this .. the best place to park your car in Benidorm, address is Carrer Mercat (or Calle del Mercado) and the car park is right by Intersport marked on the map.

Note : the blue lined parking spaces along the streets are pay & display parking areas where you should find a parking ticket machine close by.
